Our Approach

Meet the Owner

Hi my name is Carolyn Weight and I am addicted to fabric! I have been sewing since I was in 4-H at age 8. I sewed my children’s clothes, made wedding and bridesmaid dresses. I have been a quilter for about 20 years. My sister, Linda O’Brien and her friend talked me into taking a block of the month class back in 1999 and that was all it took! Over the years I have worked at several different quilt shops before Linda and I opened “My Sister’s Quilts” in the fall of 2010. Linda has moved on to other pursuits, but I am still in love with the fabric and the customers!

Our Story

The quilt that I first made is still on my bed! It will always be one of my favorites, because it was my first. I love people and love to teach classes. Through the years, I have learned so much from taking classes and teaching them. I will be the first to admit that I don’t know everything! It is amazing what you can learn from those you are teaching!

Several years ago, I started to design my own quilts and Forget-Me-Not Quilt Designs was born. As I am sitting and designing, my husband asks me “Why don’t you do something to relax?” I immediately respond: “I am!” The My Sister’s Quilts Mystery Retreat has been a great opportunity for me to play with new designs.

I have the best job in the world! I get to do what I love, play with fabric, design and piece quilts and interact with the best customers!

I have 5 wonderful children (two daughters and three sons), 3 beautiful daughters in law, 2 handsome sons in law, 5 grandsons and 6 granddaughters who all put up with my craziness! Thanks guys! My Yorkie-poo, M’Liss, patiently waits in her bed until I get home. A special thanks to my sweet husband, Evan, who has supported my fabric store addiction these past 8 years. Here’s to many more!

Our Team

Marissa Walther

Marissa started at My Sister’s Quilts in December 2018 and is the youngest of our team! She has 3 three children, 2 boys and a girl. She has sewn for 31 years and has been quilting for 4 years. Her mother was her 4-H leader and is responsible for her addiction. She likes to bake with her children and spends the majority of her spare time at their school involved in the PTA. Bruce, her husband, and her are movie nerds! Marissa is the one in charge of scheduling all the classes, so if there is something that you would like taught – please contact her.

Leanna Stauffer

Leanna has been with My Sister’s Quilts for 3 years. She is always ready with a smile and a helping hand. Leanna teaches table runner classes and the ever popular Diva Wallets and Bailey Island Hobo Bag. I keep trying to get her to teach more, but she also has her own business, Vintage Sewing Machine 2nd Chances. She has over 200 vintage machines in her possession that she restores and sells. She is the mother of 3 and has 2 granddaughters and 3 King Charles Cavalier Spaniels. She also fosters spaniels that have been rescued. She has a very patient husband, Clay. This is one busy lady!
